I recently received my 10th “Fix”…that’s just a word we Stitch Fix fanatics like to call our Stitch Fix subscription box. Stitch Fix is a happy box of awesome delivered right to your door whenever you want it too.
You see, I love to shop, but then I don’t love to shop. As a busy mom with a young child, shopping for clothes you need isn’t exactly how it used to be. Malls are crowded, parking is elusive and kids always need something or hide under something or forget something or fall off something….
Anyways! Stitch Fix helps bring the clothes you want and need most to your door, in your own private fitting room without the kids going into other peoples fitting rooms! Can you tell I’ve had a few bad experiences…
If you google Stitch Fix you will find hundreds of bloggers sharing their “fix” each month. So, I’m not going to do that, because, really, who cares! (well, I do a little)
I’m going to tell you how YOU can get the most out of your Stitch Fix Box. I won’t say that getting exactly what you like, want and need is a science but there are a few things I have learned over the past 10 boxes and I must be doing something right, because my last “fix” was by far my favorite and most on point with what I requested. I was almost tempted to keep the entire box! (More about that later)
Here are 5 tips for getting the most out of your Stitch Fix Box…
BE SPECIFIC Each “fix” is styled by a personal stylist and you have the ability to write them a note about what you need. This is specific to the fix you are about to receive and separate from your style profile which you fill out when you first sign up. You want to ALWAYS fill out this note and tell your stylist EXACTLY what your hoping will show up at your door. How do I use this? Since I use Stitch Fix to fill gaps in my wardrobe, I usually know exactly what I am in need of. Recently, I needed skinny jeans for upcoming boot season, so I told her I needed skinny jeans. I also needed tops for the FALL and Winter YET I was very specific that I live in Florida, so excessively heavy or long sleeve tops wouldn’t fly for our weather here. Take inventory of your closest, look over your calendar for upcoming events you might need something for and use this space!
DON’T BE TOO SPECIFIC “I thought you just told us to be specific” I did! and now I’m telling you that even though you need to be specific in your note to your stylist, don’t over do it because one of the things I LOVE about Stitch Fix is that the majority of the items I have purchased I would have NEVER chosen for myself. So although, I help guide my stylist on what I need, I don’t want to be so specific that I’m never surprised by anything. For example, instead of saying I need a burnt orange cashmere sweater for a holiday party, you can say; I have a holiday party to attend and am looking for a sweater to go with my black pants, I love orange and cashmere, yet I’m open to other suggestions. This way, your likely to be pleasantly surprised 😉
TAKE PICTURES OF YOURSELF IN EACH ITEM So, you may not want to share YOUR fix with the world, yet I have found (recent revelation) that when I see myself in a picture versus in the mirror I have a different perspective of that outfit. Something I disregarded in the mirror I absolutely love how I look in it in a picture. I usually ask the hubby to take the pictures, which also gives him the chance to give his opinion of each item. He feels he has a say, and I get yet another perspective to help me make my decision. As they say, pictures are worth a thousand words and they do tell a lot. So use these to your advantage, you may be pleasantly surprised or unexpectedly horrified.
DON’T BUY THE ENTIRE BOX The people at Stitch Fix wouldn’t exactly want me telling you this, but as I thought about my list for this blog post, this thought really kept coming to mind. Although you DO receive a 25% discount on all the items if you purchase the entire box, I honestly cannot imagine that you would NEED each item. We live in a society where many women have overflowing closets with items they barely use, and quite honestly it’s a waste of good hard earned money. The 25% discount may be tempting, but unless you absolutely need each item they send you and you abosultely LOVE them, don’t buy the entire box! In my most recent fix, I absolutely LOVED several of the items, one of them I didn’t need and the other I could have used but it wasn’t a top priority in what my closest absolutely needed for the upcoming season. Solution: Save the little sytle cards they send you with each item, if I were to one day need those items, I can specifically request them.
TELL YOUR FRIENDS Okay…so this may not exactly help you get the most out of your box, yet it will help you get MORE boxes. Stitch Fix has a very generous referral program where you earn $25 for each friend you refer that signs up and receives their first fix. $25 can go a long way towards your next outfit, so shout it from the roof tops if you need too, but don’t pass up the opportunity for free money!
I hope this list helps you get your next fix with exactly what you needed, a pleasant surprise thrown in for fun that you absolutely LOVE and some serious credit in your account!!
