Earlier this year I mentioned that one of my goals for 2016 was to finish reading at least one book each month. I am usually reading several at a time, yet I wanted to hold myself accountable to finishing them in a timely manner. If I don’t give myself a deadline, I can get a little lax (anyone with me?)
Since I love sharing with my little community here, I thought that I would do a short
video telling you all about what I thought of Havilah Cunnington’s latest book Eat Pray Hustle; Dream Chasing God’s Way.
This was a hard book not to like because I love most anything Havilah writes. However, this latest bible study of hers was by far my favorite!
Want to know why?
Check out the video…
Have you ever had a plan that didn’t quite work out? That’s how I feel today as I had high hopes for my first video book review! Yet, I’m not going to let a few technical difficulties get in the way of getting this review finished because I’m too excited about what I am sharing with you today!
Do you believe that God has a purpose and plan for your life? Do you believe that the dreams you dream and what you hope for in your heart are little seeds being planted with that purpose given to you by God?
We were created to dream, because we were created to live in God’s purposes for our lives.
I so enjoyed reading Eat, Pray, Hustle by Havilah Cunnington. As I already mentioned I highly admire Havilah’s passion for teaching the truths that will change our lives, and that is what I look for when I read a book.
The book is formatted as a 20 day video bible study, 20 short chapters, with 20 short videos, that pack a punch of foundational truth that anyone in any season of life needs to hear. The story of Abraham and Sarah is woven throughout the entire book. She uses their story, the testimony of their lives, to show us what the attributes of a God dream look like.
What is a God dream, and why were we made to dream? Spoiler Alert: It’s part of a bigger story!
How does God reveal those dreams to us? Many times it’s in the most unexpected or unwanted of circumstances.
What can kill our dreams and how do we stay vigilant to a very real enemy that is adamant to steal, kill and destroy our dreams.
Lastly, when we are walking in that dream, how can we steward it well.
So, what did I get out of this book?
I don’t think I have ever been walked through the process of identifying a dream before, and it was rather genius because it is so important that we understand God’s will for our lives. The way the book is organized and the way that she uses simple, yet very powerful questions at the end of each chapter to help you identify your dreams was exactly what I needed.
I loved walking through the story of Abraham and Sarah from the very beginning when God spoke to Abraham (then called Abram) and shows him the stars in the sky and tells him exactly what he has planned and purposed for his life. He planted the seed of a HUGE dream on a dark starry night and we get to see how the rest of the story played out. Ultimately, even when the dream seemed to be dying, God’s plan was far greater than Abraham and Sarah could have ever imagined or even seen from their perspective.
That too is the reality of our dreams, we have each been given a purpose that is part of a far bigger plan, and those dreams inspire us to live out our purpose each day.
A few years ago, God planted the seed of a dream in my heart that I was to encourage women to share their stories. I felt a little like Abram must have felt that day staring up at a HUGE sky, knowing that the dream he was being called to was far bigger than himself.
God wanted me to write, and I always say that I knew it was a God dream, because I don’t like to write however God wasn’t very concerned with what I “liked” doing but what he needed me doing.
It’s been a few years since I first got that dream and I have been partially faithful to steward and grow in that dream, yet as I read Havilah’s book, God reminded me throughout almost every chapter that the dream WAS from him and that it is for a BIG purpose to reach a hurting world.
I was convicted that at times I have allowed this dream to die, and I was also equipped with the tools on how to further steward the dream well.
Whew! I told you this book packs a powerful punch!
I can’t recommend this book enough. We each should walk through the process of identifying the dreams in our lives that lead us to walking in our purpose.
