Now, if you have never heard of Heirloom Audio Productions, you are not alone and you definitely want to keep reading! Heirloom Audio Productions is the professional audio theater producer of several G.A. Henty books.
If you have never heard of G.A. Henty, you are also not alone. George Alfred Henty was a prolific English novelist and storyteller. He is best known for his historical adventures stories that were popular during the 19th century, including The Dragon and The Raven.
The reason I am calling The Dragon and The Raven audio theater is because it is exactly that, a theatrical performance for the ears and imagination.
While we listened to The Dragon and The Raven I was so impressed with the quality of the production, the story that was being told, not just by words, but by the many sounds that created the atmosphere and environment surrounding the story.
As we listened I felt we were right there in the story. Like we were having a “Magic Tree House” experience where we were transported right alongside King Arthur, Edmond and the others on The Raven. The story kept Sophia’s attention throughout and although there were a couple times I was worried that she would get scared, she did great!
The quality of the production is not a surprise with this incredible and professional cast.
The Dragon and The Raven is a story that takes place during the medieval period. It is the captivating story of King Arthur the Great of England as he defeats the Danes that have captured territory in England for many years. At the beginning of the story we meet a shy young man by the name of Edmond. His father dies defending his country, throughout the story Edmond becomes passionate about following in his fathers footsteps and defending England from the invading Danes. You can say he grows up throughout the story. He and King Alfred create a battle plan, and although they are outnumbered they have God on their side.

The story of Edmond and King Arthur is a beautiful reminder that with God anything is possible. The foundational message throughout the story is based on Proverbs 21:31, “The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but victory belongs to the Lord.”
We were able to listen to the entire 2 1/2 hour production during two “sittings”. The first time we snuggled in bed while I folded laundry and she colored. We then finished the story the next day while we were in the car running errands and traveling to music lessons.
I received “The Family-Four Pack” which comes with seven digital bonuses! As a homeschooler, one of the most valuable is the e-study guide and discussion starter. This is a 30 page history learning guide designed by Christian educators as a complete story curriculum to complement The Dragon and The Raven.
Another bonus included, that we thoroughly enjoyed, was the behind-the-scenes documentary. We watched this after listening to the story and loved getting to meet all the characters, and watching how they record the story was fascinating.
Overall, I LOVED The Dragon and The Raven and so did Sophia. I felt like it enriched our day when we listened to it and best of all I was introduced to the fascinating stories of G.A Henty and the incredible audio theater productions of Heirloom Audio Productions. We will be coming back for more!
